For the last few months, I was hearing about ChatGPT everywhere: YouTube videos, LinkedIn posts, even office conversations. Many developers were saying that they did this with ChatGPT. Even after some time, ChatGPT was booming in my Instagram feeds, and everyone was showing what and how we can do with ChatGPT.
At first time, I ignored it. I thought, It’s just another chatbot… how different can it be? But one day, for Curiosity, I decided to try it and play around with it. I asked a simple request. Write a leave email. And within seconds, it gave me a clean, professional response. That’s when I realized, this is not just a chatbot.
If you’re here wondering what ChatGPT actually is, we will explain it in a very simple way, along with what we personally experienced while using it.
What is ChatGPT?
ChatGPT is like a smart AI assistant that you can chat with, create an image, or ask anything. You can type something like a question, a task, or even a random thought, and it responds instantly.
But what makes it different is this:
- It doesn’t give answers only
- It tries to understand what you mean
That’s why the responses feel more natural compared to normal chatbots. Sometimes, it even feels like you’re talking to a real person (and honestly, sometimes more patient too 😄).
Who Created ChatGPT?
ChatGPT was developed by OpenAI, a company focused on building practical artificial intelligence tools.
Their goal is simple: to make AI useful for everyday people, not just engineers, and based on how widely ChatGPT is being used today, they have clearly done something right.
My First Real Experience with ChatGPT
Let me show you exactly what I tried.
What I asked with Prompt: Write a professional leave email for 2 days because I have a fever.
What ChatGPT Replied
Subject Leave Request for 2 Days Due to Illness Hi [Manager's Name], I hope you are doing well. I would like to inform you that I am currently unwell with a fever and, as a result, I will be unable to attend work for the next two days. I plan to take leave from [start date] to [end date] to rest and recover. I will ensure that any urgent tasks are managed or handed over appropriately. Please let me know if anything requires immediate attention during my absence. Thank you for your understanding. Best regards, [Your Name]

What I felt that time.. this was a good experience. That’s when I understood something important:
ChatGPT gives a strong starting point, but I feel a human touch still matters.
How ChatGPT Actually Works (Simple Explanation)
I will try to explain easily. ChatGPT is trained on a large amount of text data. It learns patterns, how people write, ask questions, and respond.
So when you type something:
- It understands your input
- It predicts what a good answer should look like
- And gives a response
Important thing:
- It doesn’t “know” everything
- It predicts based on patterns
That’s why sometimes it feels very smart… and sometimes slightly off.
Real Ways I Started Using ChatGPT
After my first try, I started experimenting more. The following are the topics that I tried and used.
1. Writing Emails
Saved time instantly.
2. Fixing Sentences
Sometimes I write something messy — it cleans it up nicely.
3. Blog Ideas
Not always unique, but good starting points.
Where ChatGPT Didn’t Help Much
Let me real.. and it’s not perfect.
When I asked for “unique business ideas.”
Most answers were very common. like:
- Dropshipping
- Blogging
- Freelancing
- Affiliates
That’s when I realized:
- ChatGPT is good at improving ideas
- But not always great at original thinking
Real Use Case: Trip Planning
One interesting thing I tried was planning a trip.
What I Asked: Plan a 3-day budget trip from Mumbai to Goa under ₹10,000
ChatGPT actually gave me a good plan, including travel options, budget stays, and a simple itinerary.

Of course, I didn’t blindly follow it. But it saved a lot of time for planning and execution.
Why ChatGPT Became So Popular
From my experience, these are the main reasons:
- It’s simple: No learning curve.
- It saves time: You get instant answers.
- It feels natural: Conversation is smooth.
- It works for almost everyone: Students, professionals, developers — anyone can use it.
Things You Should Be Careful About
This is important.
ChatGPT can:
- Can give wrong information sometimes if the directions are incorrect
- Sounds very confident even when incorrect
- Miss context. Sometimes giving such information that is not relevant or asked.
- Sometimes, forgetting past conversation and asking again for the previous content/context.
So always:
- Double-check important things while giving instructions, and read the response correctly.
- Don’t blindly trust it. Always verify before trying or implementing.
My Honest Opinion
If you ask me honestly… ChatGPT is not magic. But if used properly, it can easily save 1–2 hours daily.
For me, it works best for:
- Emails:
- Any type of emails, like official or unofficial ( I even tried to submit a complaint on the Government portal )
- Content improvement:
- Always check and verify what it is giving.
- Quick explanations:
- You can ask for explanations for anything that is given by ChatGPT. Even for the developer, it can explain logic very well for coding.
But I don’t fully trust it for:
- Financial advice
- Never share any confidential or important data with ChatGPT
- Never ask to update anything directly. First, verify and then give instructions.
- Major decisions:
- Never ask ChatGPT to make major decisions. Always verify, first try at your end, and then ask to update something.
Overall, yes, it’s powerful, but not 100% perfect.
